Hazardous Waste Management Services

Hazardous waste management is an increasingly important element of the waste disposal package as more waste types are designated hazardous as per the ‘Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005’.

All hazardous waste producers producing over 200kg per annum must register with the ‘Environment Agency’ to allow hazardous waste to be removed from site. Once registered, the ‘Environment Agency’ issue the producer with a reference number that is required for each consignment of waste removed from site.

If an organization has more than one premises that produces hazardous waste, each premises must be registered. Contractors are unable to collect hazardous waste from these premises without the registration number.

TWMS can register your company as a ‘Hazardous Waste Producer’ on your behalf. A simple call to our technical team and your registration is complete.

Bespoke disposal routes need to be identified for specific waste types and TWMS has established a full nationwide disposal service for all hazardous waste streams.

Asbestor removal

Lead in PCB Boards

This ranges from fluorescent tubes and batteries to oils, solvents, rags, chemicals, IT equipment, paint, aerosols, etc. Wherever possible, TWMS will look for a recycling route to minimise your environmental impact. Certain hazardous wastes can be used in a recovery process, i.e. Solvents, Oils, Metals in solution, etc.

Other hazardous wastes can be consolidated with other dry materials and disposed of through a‘Hazardous Waste Landfill’. Hazardous wastes that can not be used through a recovery process or consolidation for landfill can only be disposed via incineration. All hazardous wastes are taken to licensed facilities and can be collected via skips, vans, tautliners or tankers.

Waste Packaging & Storage

TWMS can supply UN approved drums and containers for the storage and removal of hazardous wastes.

Using specialist reconditioners, TWMS can supply any size containers including 20ltr, 120ltr, 150ltr, 205ltr and IBCs (1000ltr). For larger quantity liquid wastes TWMS can install pumping stations with storage tanks of up to 20,000 ltrs.

For dry wastes, TWMS supply wheeled bins of various sizes and cages for paper & cardboard, etc.

Waste Identification & Labeling Service

As businesses grow or change hands, certain waste streams get left behind and labels fade off rusty drums, TWMS offer an identification and labelling service prior to the removal of your hazardous wastes.

Our qualified technical chemists will identify, list and label poorly identifiable drums to ensure that they are removed from site and arrive at their destination safely. For severely damaged drums, TWMS can supply Overdrums for secure containment.

Poor Recycling Threat to UK
WEEE industry sources have warned that poor recycling practices of WEEE materials currently taking place in Germany are in danger of being replicated in the UK.

Although German recycling levels are held up as one of the best in Europe, a recent report in German Capital magazine reported that while “in Austria, recyclers succeed in extracting 91% of the CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) from old appliances in an environmentally friendly way, and disposing of these substances without any emission to the atmosphere, the rate in Germany is a
mere 42%.”
